The Work

You will create, solve, review, and validate advanced mathematical tasks used to train AI systems. The work combines mathematical reasoning with reproducible computer-based experiments and checks.

You will turn mathematical requirements into clear procedures, implement them with Python and command-line tools, and assess whether results are mathematically sound, numerically correct, and reproducible.

  • Solve and validate advanced mathematical and computational problems.
  • Translate mathematical requirements into precise, executable procedures.
  • Use Python and suitable command-line tools to implement mathematical workflows.
  • Automate calculations, numerical experiments, parameter sweeps, visualizations, and result checks.
  • Test special cases and verify that computational results are correct and reproducible.

What It Pays and Takes

This is a fully remote, part-time contractor role with flexible scheduling. The work is open to candidates in the countries listed for this role.

  • $60 to $120 per hour equivalent, paid per task that meets the project specifications.
  • About 15 hours per week, with a workload of less than 20 hours per week.
  • Fluent in English.
  • An MS or PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computational Science, Theoretical Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Alternatively, a BS in Mathematics or a closely related quantitative field plus 1 to 2 years of mathematics-focused professional or research experience.
  • Strong expertise in at least one area such as applied mathematics, numerical analysis, optimization, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, algebra, geometry, mathematical modeling, or dynamical systems.
  • Practical Python experience for mathematical computation, automation, experimentation, or validation.
  • Familiarity with tools such as NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, SageMath, CVXPY, pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, Julia, GNU Octave, numerical solvers, or comparable scientific software.
  • Experience with command-line mathematical tools, optimization libraries, numerical methods, scientific computing, or reproducible computational research is helpful.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind systems that learn from examples, including solving and reviewing tasks, writing code, and checking model outputs. People with strong mathematical and technical skills help make these examples accurate and useful, which is why specialized work can pay more.

How OpenTrain AI pays and hires

OpenTrain says it is free for freelancers, with no fees or subscriptions. Clients fund each milestone before work starts, and OpenTrain pays out to your connected payout method when the client approves the milestone. It doesn't publish a fixed payout schedule.
