The Work

You will support AI training by using advanced AI models and agents to investigate research questions in computer science and computational or mathematical physics. The work combines proof attempts, algorithm development, simulations, literature review, and careful technical reporting.

You will assess whether research outputs are correct, reproducible, and potentially novel. Your reports will explain the methods used, partial results, challenges, and promising directions.

  • Identify open problems, new bounds, and research challenges that can be investigated.
  • Use AI models and agents to attempt proofs, develop algorithms, and run computational simulations.
  • Verify proofs, reproduce numerical results, and use formal tools when appropriate.
  • Compare findings with recent published research to assess correctness and novelty.
  • Write thorough reports covering methods, results, challenges, and next steps.

What It Pays and Takes

This is a contract role with flexible part-time or full-time engagement. The work calls for advanced research experience and strong judgment when evaluating proofs, numerical results, algorithms, and research claims.

  • Pay: $100 to $400 per hour.
  • Schedule: Flexible; part-time or full-time engagement.
  • Experience level: Entry level.
  • Location: Open to candidates in the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Denmark, Algeria, Egypt, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Greece, Indonesia, India, Italy, Jordan, Japan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Oman, Peru, the Philippines, Pakistan, the Palestinian territories, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Tunisia, Taiwan, the United States, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and South Africa.
  • Language: Fluent English.
  • Research background: Late-stage PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, or early-career academic in computer science or mathematical or computational physics.
  • Publication record: Multiple papers at leading venues, or work addressing open problems and novel concepts.
  • Technical skills: Simulation, numerical analysis, algorithmic implementation, and careful evaluation of research claims.
  • Helpful experience: Frontier AI models, AI agents, Lean, SAT or SMT solvers, or other formal computational tools.
  • Application materials: A public research statement or homepage describing specific open problems under investigation.
  • Additional helpful background: A best paper award, dissertation award, competitive fellowship, or experience reviewing or sub-reviewing for prominent conferences.

How It Works

OpenTrain is a platform where people find AI training and data-labeling work, build a profile, and start applications. You apply on OpenTrain with your resume and then complete the application on the hiring site.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind artificial intelligence. Contributors test models, review outputs, prepare examples, and provide research or technical feedback so AI systems can improve; experienced specialists are paid for applying their subject knowledge and careful judgment.

How OpenTrain AI pays and hires

OpenTrain says it is free for freelancers, with no fees or subscriptions. Clients fund each milestone before work starts, and OpenTrain pays out to your connected payout method when the client approves the milestone. It doesn't publish a fixed payout schedule.

Create a free profile with your domains, languages and hourly rate, then apply to listings. Some listings hire through OpenTrain; others link you straight to the hiring platform.
