The work

You will help assess and improve how AI systems reason about atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The work combines expert analysis, critique, and clear scientific communication.

You will use legally shareable research or project examples to explain technical ideas in writing and verbally.

  • Review ab initio configuration interaction methods used to calculate polarizability in atomic systems.
  • Analyze and critique atomic-structure calculations involving the Yb-171 and Yb-174 isotopes.
  • Identify and explain sigma and pi transitions in relevant atomic spectra.
  • Apply physical principles to evaluate technical reasoning and give clear, concrete examples.

What it pays and takes

This is part-time AI training work for a physics specialist with advanced knowledge of AMO physics, optical properties of materials, and atomic-structure calculations.

  • Pay: $100 to $200 per hour.
  • Time: Less than 20 hours per week.
  • Work type: Part-time contractor work.
  • Language: Fluent English.
  • Location: remote, open to applicants in the United States.
  • Education: An advanced degree in Physics or equivalent experience, focused on AMO physics or optical properties of materials.
  • Experience: Proven experience with ab initio quantum chemistry calculations, configuration interaction approaches to polarizability, and atomic-structure computation for ytterbium isotopes, especially Yb-171 and Yb-174.
  • Communication: Ability to distinguish and explain sigma versus pi transitions and communicate complex scientific concepts in a structured written and verbal format.

How it works

You apply here in about two minutes and finish on the hiring platform. The next step is a short AI interview (technical roles include a coding challenge). Passing it is how you qualify for paid tasks, so take it soon after you are invited.

About AI training work

AI training is the human work behind systems that learn from examples and expert feedback. In this role, your physics knowledge helps evaluate technical reasoning and improve how AI handles specialized scientific topics.

How OpenTrain AI pays and hires

OpenTrain says it is free for freelancers, with no fees or subscriptions. Clients fund each milestone before work starts, and OpenTrain pays out to your connected payout method when the client approves the milestone. It doesn't publish a fixed payout schedule.
