Opportunity Overview
Handshake is looking for registered cardiac sonographers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job. You’ll draw on your clinical training and hands-on experience in echocardiography, including transthoracic, transesophageal, stress, and pediatric studies, to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing cardiac sonographer. The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.
What You’ll Do
- Use your sonography expertise to create expert-level tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve, based on real echo lab workflows such as image acquisition and optimization, standard view protocols, Doppler and hemodynamic measurements, chamber quantification, recognition of pathology, and preliminary findings and reporting
- Review and evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, patient safety, and alignment with current echocardiography practice and professional guidelines
- Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
- Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement
Qualifications
- Degree: Completed an accredited sonography program and must hold a bachelor’s degree
- Credentials: Must hold a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential from ARDMS, or the equivalent RCS credential from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Clinical depth: Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Adult transthoracic echocardiography
- Doppler and hemodynamic assessment, including valvular disease
- Stress echocardiography and contrast studies
- Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
- Pediatric and congenital echocardiography
- Strain imaging and 3D echocardiography
- Point-of-care or critical care echocardiography
Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application)
- Additional credentials, such as RVT, RDMS, or advanced echocardiography certifications, or experience across multiple echo lab settings
- Experience at an academic medical center, hospital echo lab, or cardiology practice, experience training students or new sonographers, or familiarity with reporting and image management systems
Required for all applicants
- Must have US work authorization
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Ability to explain complex echocardiography concepts clearly
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
How Handshake AI pays and hires
Weekly through Stripe. The pay week runs Monday to Sunday (Pacific), Handshake sends payouts by Wednesday afternoon, and funds usually become withdrawable about two days later. Onboarding is paid only when a project's terms say so.
Apply and verify your identity on the Handshake AI site. You're matched to projects by background, invited by email when one fits, and some projects require an assessment first.
