Opportunity Overview
Handshake is looking for registered diagnostic medical sonographers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job. You’ll draw on your clinical training and hands-on experience in diagnostic ultrasound, including abdominal, obstetric and gynecologic, vascular, small parts, and musculoskeletal imaging, to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing sonographer. The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.
What You’ll Do
- Use your sonography expertise to create expert-level tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve, based on real ultrasound lab workflows such as patient positioning and transducer selection, image acquisition and optimization, standard protocols, Doppler and measurements, recognition of normal anatomy and pathology, and preliminary findings and reporting
- Review and evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, patient safety, and alignment with current sonography practice and professional guidelines
- Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
- Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement
Qualifications
- Education: Completed an accredited sonography program and must hold a bachelor’s degree
- Credential: Currently holds the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential from ARDMS
- Clinical depth: Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Abdominal and retroperitoneal ultrasound
- Obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound
- Small parts, including thyroid, breast, and scrotal imaging
- Vascular and Doppler studies
- Musculoskeletal ultrasound
- Pediatric sonography
- Point-of-care or emergency ultrasound
Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application)
- Additional credentials, such as RVT, RDCS, or RMSKS, or experience across multiple ultrasound specialties and clinical settings
- Experience at an academic medical center, hospital imaging department, or outpatient imaging center, experience training students or new sonographers, or familiarity with PACS and reporting systems
Required for all applicants
- Must have US work authorization
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Ability to explain complex sonography concepts clearly
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
How Handshake AI pays and hires
Weekly through Stripe. The pay week runs Monday to Sunday (Pacific), Handshake sends payouts by Wednesday afternoon, and funds usually become withdrawable about two days later. Onboarding is paid only when a project's terms say so.
Apply and verify your identity on the Handshake AI site. You're matched to projects by background, invited by email when one fits, and some projects require an assessment first.
