The Work
You will evaluate AI-generated chemical engineering content and improve prompts, responses, explanations, and step-by-step solutions. Your reviews will focus on whether the work is accurate, complete, clear, logically sound, safe, and based on reasonable assumptions.
The role suits chemical engineers who can explain technical feedback in writing and judge whether AI handles real engineering constraints and process scenarios responsibly.
- Evaluate AI responses on material and energy balances, thermodynamics, unit operations, separations, process control, scale-up, and plant troubleshooting.
- Create realistic calculations, scenarios, and process-based reasoning tasks to test language models.
- Find factual errors, flawed assumptions, missing constraints, unsafe recommendations, unit mistakes, consistency problems, and incomplete reasoning.
- Review phase behavior, thermodynamic property use, separations logic, operability, process safety, scale-up, and plant troubleshooting scenarios.
- Help AI explain assumptions, limitations, calculations, and professional engineering judgment clearly.
- Support responsible technical communication, including when work should be escalated to a licensed engineer or site expert.
What It Pays and Takes
This is a remote, part-time contract role with hourly pay and a flexible, project-based workload. Qualified specialists should be ready for steady review work during active project periods.
- Pay: $40 to $100 per hour, paid hourly.
- Schedule: 20+ hours per week.
- Work type: Remote contractor role with a flexible project-based workload.
- Location: Open to candidates in Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.
- Language: English.
- Experience: At least 4 years of professional chemical engineering experience.
- Background: Process design, plant or operations engineering, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, utilities, EHS, quality, R&D, or controls and automation interfaces.
- Knowledge: Material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, unit operations, and process control.
- Skills: Engineering calculations, assumptions, constraints, uncertainty, safety factors, and defensible technical reasoning.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a closely related field.
- Preferred credentials: Master's degree, doctorate, PE license, or Chartered status.
- Helpful experience: AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or reviewing AI-generated technical content.
- Helpful tools and documents: PFDs, P&IDs, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, process datasheets, PSM documentation, HAZOP, LOPA, and SOPs.

About AI Training Work
AI training work uses human expertise to review examples and feedback that help AI systems produce better answers. Specialists are paid for this work because accurate technical judgment is needed to catch errors, explain limits, and improve how models handle real-world problems.
How OpenTrain AI pays and hires
OpenTrain says it is free for freelancers, with no fees or subscriptions. Clients fund each milestone before work starts, and OpenTrain pays out to your connected payout method when the client approves the milestone. It doesn't publish a fixed payout schedule.
